Nick Jonas is ready to move on the next phase of his music career following the disbandment of the Jonas Brothers, and on Thursday (July 24), the youngest JoBro dropped an intriguing preview of his forthcoming solo full-length. Click here to listen to new single “Chains,” which premiered on Complex.
“Chains” is distinctly different from the Jonas Brothers’ music, as well as Nick’s music with the Administration — silky vocals and a decisive R&B aesthetic made one Billboard staffer compare the track to a Miguel song when Jonas stopped by the Billboard office to play new music earlier this week. “Tryna break the chains, but the chains only break me,” Jonas declares, desperately trying to position himself as an adult artist, and soundly succeeding.

Produced by Jason Evigan, “Chains” is the first single from Jonas’ forthcoming album on Island Records. It’s also the first music Jonas has released since the Jonas Brothers scrapped a comeback tour and parted ways last October.
The as-yet-untitled album will not feature the Administration, his backing band with whom he released an album, “Who I Am,” in 2010. “Who I Am” has sold 179,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
