Sound the alarm: Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” has roared early.

The tune, the first single from her forthcoming third studio album “Prism” (due Oct. 22), was slated to premiere on Monday, Aug. 12. However, in the early morning of Aug. 10, the song leaked to the Internet.

Listen: Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’

In turn, “Roar” has now officially been serviced to radio stations and is scheduled reach the iTunes Store at 12 AM, EDT, on Monday, Aug. 12. The song will be aired hourly on participating Clear Channel radio stations, like a number of recent major single releases (ranging from Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey and Adele).

There’s little doubt that “Roar” will roar onto the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart this Wednesday (Aug. 14), when the new weekly chart is compiled. Even if the song hadn’t premiered until Monday as planned, the track would have probably bowed high on the chart based solely off of airplay. (The Hot 100’s airplay week runs from Wednesday through Tuesday of each week, while its sales week runs from Monday through Sunday.)

Based on Perry’s track history at radio and retail, “Roar” should storm into the upper reaches of the chart — if not this week, then certainly next.

The last time Perry was previewing a new album with its lead single was in 2010, when “California Gurls” ushered in her “Teenage Dream” set. “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and shot to No. 1 in its fourth week. Its start was powered by first-week sales of 294,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It was one of five No. 1 singles from “Teenage Dream,” making Perry the only woman in history to have five No. 1 Hot 100 singles from one album.
